*Job Description*The Locomotive Mechanic Inspects, maintains, and repairs locomotive mechanical, electrical and diesel enginesystems in accordance with FRA regulations on FRA and customer owned locomotives at the Transportation Technology Center (TTC).Performs mechanical inspection on locomotives and repairs defects to conform to FRA regulations.Tests locomotives for performance by use of load box.Replaces brake shoes on locomotives.Disassembles and rebuilds locomotive trucks and replaces wheel sets and traction motors.Repairs and rebuilds diesel engines, air compressors, and many other locomotive components.Disassembles and reassembles locomotives and machinery.Perform emergency repairs and have a basic understanding of electrical theory, AC and DC motors, control circuits, and electrical schematics.Comply with the guidelines set forth by the FRA on Personal Blue Signal Protection of Workers.Be proficient and knowledgeable on the interchange rules as they pertain to locomotives.Must possess the ability to complete written forms and reports as well as necessary Federal Railroad Administration reports pertaining to locomotive maintenance.Performs other duties as required.*Accountable for compliance of all safety and operating rules, policies and guidelines.**Working hours: Monday - Thursday 7:00 AM 4:30 PM, Friday 7:00 AM 3:30 PM*_TTC has a 9/80 work schedule consisting of a total of eight nine-hour days, one eight-hour day, and one day off spread over a two-workweek timeframe.
