Description
The Sports Program Assistant has all the same responsibilities and the Youth Sports Official with additional assignments to assist the Community Director with operations of the Sports department. They will provide leadership to all participants and coaches by knowing, understanding, and implementing the rules of the game and ensuring the safety of the playing area. The Sports Program Assistant will make sure the overall program runs smoothly, including games starting and ending according to the schedule. Sports include basketball, soccer, football, and volleyball.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF A SPORTS PROGRAM ASSISTANT:

• Assists with the overall operations of youth sports program including scheduling, coach recruitment, and roster building.
• Assists in the evaluation of programs, maintains accurate records, and distributes information to coaches.
• Officiates at games and records wins and losses.
• Develops positive relationships with participants, coaches, and parents.
• Controls the conduct of game play and spectators.
• Operates all equipment properly and promptly reports any problems.
• Sets up and maintains a clean playing area.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
• Enforces rules and regulations.
• Communicates effectively with members, peers, volunteers, parents, children and supervisor.
• Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures including emergency procedures.
• Completes incident and accident reports as necessary. *This is not an exhaustive list of job duties. Other duties, responsibilities and activities may be assigned.
  REQUIREMENTS TO BE A SPORTS PROGRAM ASSISTANT:
  • Staff and Program Leadership
  • Strong people-skills
  • Administrative skills
  • Fair and appropriate approach when working with participants, parents and coaches
  • Significant involvement with the sport and/or experience officiating the sport in order to
    advise participants and coaches AVAILIBILITY:
    • 25 hours per week.
