Job Description:
The Superintendent of the Amity Mutual Irrigation Company is
responsible for enforcing company policies and procedures regarding
water distribution and canal maintenance for the Amity Canal. The
superintendent will perform the following duties as required:
Stakeholder/Public Relations 40%
- Manage and maintain a strong public relations program with
stakeholders, including but not limited to shareholders, water
commissioners, Board, government representatives, legal
representatives, and the public.
- Educate shareholders and farmers on water rights, rules,
regulations, and complexity of canal system.
- Negotiate and resolve conflicts over water distribution, canal
system, and access to canal system/right of way.
- Communicate with other canal companies to build and maintain
relationship and maintan currency on issues pertaining to canal
systems. Operations 20%
- Adhere to the company's current operating plan that regulates
the distribution and storage of water rights and regulate the
distribution of water forr irrigation to company shareholders.
- Direct day-to-day operations of the Company; oversee the
operation and maintenance of irrigation facilities, equipment, and
real property.
- Monitor water levels: gather water when available and determine
loss and amount distributed.
- Record water distribution daily, track telemetry and water
guages.
- Confirm water allocation and request allocation annually.
- Monitor river levels and changes to flow to determine impact on
irrigation season.
- Oversee repair and upkeep canal system; determine replacement
needs.
- Develop and submit annual budget to the Board; implement
approved budget; manager company expenses; ensure bills are paid
and accounts are in good standing.
- Keep and maintain records for the Company, including but not
limited to inventory of real property, precipitation reports,
irrigation summary reports, storage capacity. Board Relations 20%
- Communicate regularly with the Board pertaining to issues
related to water rights, status of canal system, and sharholder
relationships.
- Develop and submit annual budget for Board approval.
- Develop short-and-long range plans with Board for repair and/or
replacement of canal system.
- Other duties assigned. Qualifications and Education
Requirements
- Experitse in and knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations
regarding Colorado water rights.
- Expertise in and knowledge of canals and irrigation
systems.
- Excellent interpersonal relationship skills with the ability to
build positive and respect-based relationships with internal and
external stakeholders, shareholders, and the Board; resolve
conflict, negotiate.
- Ability to explain complex systems to a variety of
stakeholders.
- Advanced Math and Computer skills.
- Problem solving and trouble shooting.
- Knowledge of heavy equipment operation and repair.
- Valid CO Drivers license Preferred Skills
- Degree or Certificate in Water Engineer preferred.
- Engineering skills preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of hydrology
- During irrigation season, must be available 24/7 or designate
authority to other; have ability to drive 200 miles/day. Company
