  • Performs routine venipuncture & heel sticks. Assist with lab record keeping and quality control activities.Reports to:

      • NoneEducation/Experience/License/Certification:
        • High school graduate or equivalent with proper training in phlebotomy procedures
        • Graduation from an accredited phlebotomy diploma program preferred
        • Minimum one (1) year experience as a lab assistant/phlebotomist preferredRequired Travel:
          • Infrequent travel may include limited local travel.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

              • Skill in labeling and maintaining all materials for collection.

              • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
              • Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions.
              • Ability to follow written protocols.
              • Ability to work independently.
              • Ability to communicate clearly.
              • Spanish speaking preferred.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

                  • Adhere to the guidelines and procedures of Pueblo Community Health Center, Inc.
                  • Performs routine venipuncture & heel sticks appropriate to the age-specific needs of all patients, including peri-natal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric, with little or no supervision.
                  • Verify and/or record identity of patient and converse with patient to explain procedure as well as allay fear of procedure.
                  • Perform daily quality control in the laboratory as needed.
                  • Maintain records/logs of lab work performed and provide daily reports to the Director of Laboratory & Infection Control.
                  • Assist with identification and labeling of specimens. Stores and distributes specimens.
                  • Operates, cleans and sterilizes laboratory equipment, glassware, and instruments. Cleans work area.
                  • Answers telephone, takes messages and provides routine laboratory information.
                  • Checks inventory of supplies and assists with placing orders.
                  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
                  • Adhere to all laboratory policies and procedures.
                  • Perform other duties as assigned.

                      • The employee frequently moves or positions objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds while performing patient care tasks and routine office duties such as opening file drawers, moving patient files, etc.Environmental Conditions:

                          • Most work is performed in an office environment with quiet to moderate noise level.
                          • This job has an O.S.H.A. classification of Category 1. All procedures or other job-related tasks involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues or a potential for spills or splashes of these fluids.
                          • Job offer contingent on being free of active tuberculosis. This job requires yearly tuberculosis screening.
                          • This position will be provided with the opportunity for yearly influenza vaccinations.
